Santa Caterina Valfurva, the largest alpine ski area of Europe, is in the heart of the Stelvio National Park.
Dominated by the peaks of the Ortles Cevedale mountain chain and the Himalayan type glaciers of the Forni, it is one of the most popular locations in Valtellina. Santa Caterina Valfurva is renowned as the site of the most important international cross-country ski events and for being the birthplace of world-famous skier Deborah Compagnoni. A chair lift climbs to 2000 meters in altitude to reach the ten ski runs, with their 35 kilometers of slopes. There are seven ski tows, including the Sobretta, which reaches an altitude of 2700 meters. Cross-country fans will love the two magnificent trails that cover a total of 15 kilometers and travel through the woods.
